About Pundit Ramdath Vyas
Pt. Ramdath Vyas was the son of Pt. and Mrs. Vyas of Charlieville. He was the brother of Pts. Mahadeo, Doodnath, Deodath and Kemraj Vyas, and four loving sisters. Above all, he was an exemplary son and leader of Hinduism. Pandit Ramdath Vyas was also an avid sportsman and a linguist versed in Hindi, Sanskrit, Spanish and French. For a number of years he taught Spanish, French and English Literature at the Couva Government Secondary School.
Pundit Ramdath sought to strengthen multicultural ties as a representative on the board of the IRO of Trinidad and Tobago. He was also the President of the Pandit’s Parishad of the SDMS, a Member of the Education Board and also the Vice President of the SDMS. His contribution to Sanatan Dharma and his selfless religious and social service was recognized by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago who bestowed on him the Chaconia Gold Medal. He was a loving husband to Sasee, and an adoring father to Sudi, Sharda and the late Amba Pundit. To his many Godchildren, he was inspiring and always a fountain of knowledge, wisdom and blessings. Even after his stroke in 1992, he remained a stalwart of Dharma, with a deep love for listening to the words of the scriptures. He founded and was the Spiritual Leader of the Vyas Hindu Complex in Chaguanas. His voice was uniquely melodious and his capacity to propagate a love and appreciation of the teachings of Hinduism was unparalleled.
Pt. Ramdath Vyas wished for all to come closer to realising their best divine self. He lived his teachings and exemplified the deep inner peace and radiance that comes with that realization. He was a great, loving, gentle, and luminous soul. We were deeply blessed by his presence on this earth.
